The Last of Us Season 2 Premieres April 13 on HBO

HBO has announced that the highly anticipated second season of The Last of Us will premiere on April 13 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The new season will continue the story five years after the events of the first, with Joel and Ellie facing a more unpredictable world. New character posters have been released, featuring Bella Ramsey, Pedro Pascal, and Kaitlyn Dever.

The show’s creators plan to span four seasons, covering only a fraction of The Last of Us Part II. HBO executive Francesca Orsi has confirmed this, citing the expansive nature of the game as the reason for a longer series run. New cast members have been announced, including Isabela Merced and Jeffrey Wright.

In an interview, Neil Druckmann suggested that the second game’s story was too complex to fit into one season. He argued that audiences would expect more from the show, given its star-studded cast, and that dragging out the series would provide a better viewing experience. With The Last of Us already proving successful with only one season per game, three seasons are seen as a viable option.

Viewers can catch new episodes on HBO Max at the same time they air on the network. Stay tuned for more updates on Season 2 of The Last of Us.
