Microsoft’s Xbox Summer Showcase announcement earlier today revealed that Obsidian’s highly anticipated sequel, The Outer Worlds 2, will feature a Direct-style presentation following the event on June 8. Meanwhile, IGN has dropped the first gameplay video, giving fans an early glimpse into the game’s stealth mechanics.
In the footage, players can see themselves infiltrating an N-Ray facility with the help of a crazed cultist companion. The game boasts a comprehensive stealth system, allowing players to evade detection by alerting fellow guards. However, with skills like body disintegration and silent takedowns, players can take out enemies undetected.
The gameplay also features improved melee combat and a new scanner, N-Ray Scanner, which helps players spot invisible cultists. Gunplay has been tweaked for better accuracy, drawing inspiration from Bungie’s Destiny. Movement has been fine-tuned for greater agility, with added sprint-slide moves while aiming down sights.
IGN revealed that the game takes cues from Fallout: New Vegas, showcasing complex choices and consequences. The gameplay footage hints at potential player decision-making moments, such as deciding whether to save a non-hostile character who provided assistance earlier in the game.
The Outer Worlds 2 is scheduled for release later this year on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
