The hit TV series “The Rookie” is taking its international presence to new heights by kicking off Season 8 in Prague. Showrunner Alexi Hawley and star Nathan Fillion confirmed the overseas adventure during San Diego Comic-Con in July 2025, revealing that the season premiere was already filmed.
Nolan and his wife, firefighter Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan), will be part of the Czech-filled episode, along with Detective Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) and FBI Supervisory Special Agent Matt Garza (Felix Solis). The new season doesn’t premiere until 2026, but Hawley has teased what’s to come.
Season 7 left off with Nolan managing to escape from a villainous kidnapping plot and Oscar Hutchinson (Matthew Glave) escaping prison. Monica Stevens (Bridget Regan), the corrupt attorney who made an immunity deal with the FBI, will continue her story in season 8.
The cast for Season 8 includes returning series regulars Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, Eric Winter, Shawn Ashmore, and Lisseth Chavez, as well as new series regular Deric Augustine as rookie officer Miles Penn.
Hawley also teased that Oscar will return during season 8, explaining that he’s not as revenge-oriented as other villains. Monica’s immunity deal with the FBI will be a major focus for the LAPD in season 8.
As for the fan-favorite romances, Hawley confirmed that Tim and Lucy’s relationship is still on track. However, the door remains closed for Nolan and Bailey’s romance, at least for now.
The showrunner hinted that the new season won’t feature a significant time jump, instead opting for a continuous storyline with some unresolved plot points to be addressed soon.
ABC has announced that Season 8 of “The Rookie” will premiere in midseason 2026, although an exact date has not been revealed. With 18 episodes to look forward to, fans can expect more international intrigue and action from the LAPD squad.
