Canadian singer-songwriter Abel Tesfaye, known by his stage name The Weeknd, has canceled his upcoming concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles County.
Tesfaye announced the decision on Instagram, citing respect and concern for the people affected by the fires. He also postponed the release of his new album, “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” now set to arrive on January 31st. The singer expressed his focus on supporting the recovery efforts in the community.
Following the deadly Eaton Fire, which burned over 14,000 acres, the Rose Bowl Stadium was temporarily converted into an emergency response center for Pasadena Police and Fire. According to officials, it was never intended as a drop-off site for victims but became overwhelmed with demand.
The fires have claimed at least 24 lives so far, with many more missing. The Pacific Palisades Fire is predicted to be the most costly in US history, having burned over 23,000 acres of land.
