Therapy Dog Rigsby Brings Joy to First Responders

Meet Rigsby, a 4-month-old English Springer Spaniel puppy with a big job. His one task is to brighten the days of first responders in Hennepin County and beyond. With his adorable antics and wagging tail, Rigsby brings comfort and joy to those who have seen traumatic events.

Recently, Minnesota’s first responders faced numerous tough days, including mass shootings and assassinations. The emotional toll can be overwhelming, wearing down even the toughest individuals. That’s where Rigsby comes in – tripping over his own feet, but with a heart of gold. His handler, Mary Welch, says he brings joy to everyone every day.

As Rigsby continues to grow and learn, he’s already making a difference. When first responders return from shifts, they light up when they see him. It’s wonderful to watch them smile again, thanks to this therapy dog’s presence. With his “Therapy Dog” badge (which is not edible), Rigsby is spreading joy one wag at a time.
