Thieves Steal $31K Worth of Pies from Michelin-Starred Chef’s Van

Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks said he’s out of 2,500 pies after thieves stole his van containing the baked goods. The refrigerated van was stolen from a storage unit with the pies in boxes bearing Banks’ name. The pies were worth about £25,000 (around $31,000) and were meant to be sold at York Christmas Market.

Banks expressed gratitude for the outpouring support he received from other business owners and people watching online after the theft. He said the response has been “amazing” and thanked those who offered to lend him resources to make it work.

Police have recovered the stolen van, a white Fiat Ducato, which was found abandoned with false number plates in the Hemlington area of Middlesbrough. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Banks had previously uploaded an Instagram video calling for the thieves to donate the pies to a charity for those in need.
