The WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) Act requires companies to notify employees 60 days before mass layoffs, which will impact over 138 employers this month. The layoffs are spread across various industries, including retail, pharmaceuticals, airlines, and package delivery.
According to WARNTracker.com, nearly 160 companies will lay off employees in June, exceeding the 130 companies that did so in May. Layoffs vary from one company to another, with some cutting between 1-25 employees, while others, like Leidos Holdings, have previously reduced their workforce due to restructuring efforts.
Experts predict that companies will continue to cut jobs as a way to prioritize profits, and now the US government has also gotten on board. President Donald Trump announced delaying planned tariffs on European trade to July 9, which some analysts believe may impact job growth in the sector.
HR consultant Bryan Driscoll said, “It’s a tale of two different kinds of layoffs.” Federal government entities are undergoing restructuring, while health insurers are scaling back workforces due to rising medical expenses. As companies prioritize profits over employee retention, workers should be prepared for potential job losses.
