The Oklahoma City Thunder have advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2016 after a dominant performance from MVP favorite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in Game 7 against the Denver Nuggets. Down by 11 points late in the first quarter, the Thunder roared back and took control of the game, ultimately winning 125-93.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge with a game-high 35 points on 12-of-19 shooting. The Thunder’s superstar guard has now scored 30+ points in seven postseason games this season, the most in the league. Oklahoma City forward Jalen Williams added 24 points, five rebounds, and seven assists to the team’s effort.
Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists but struggled from beyond the arc, converting just 10-of-45 shots. The Nuggets’ loss was their fourth game in the series, and they expressed disappointment in the post-game news conference. “We’ve always found a way to win a game,” Jokić said. “We’ve found a way to win a series… today wasn’t the case.”
The Thunder will now face the Minnesota Timberwolves, led by star guard Anthony Edwards, starting Tuesday night in Oklahoma City.
