Thunder Take 3-1 Lead Over Timberwolves in Western Conference Finals

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s clutch free throws gave the Oklahoma City Thunder a 4-point lead with 14 seconds left in Game 4, securing a 128-126 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center. The Thunder now have a commanding 3-1 series lead.

Gilgeous-Alexander recorded an NBA playoff career-high 40 points, while Jalen Williams added a postseason career-high 34 points. Chet Holmgren chipped in with 21 points for the Thunder. The Timberwolves were led by Nickeil Alexander-Walker’s 23 points, with Jaden McDaniels and Donte DiVincenzo adding 22 and 21 points respectively.

To contain Anthony Edwards, the Thunder employed an aggressive defensive approach, using Lu Dort to force two offensive fouls on illegal screens. However, a collective effort from the Thunder defenders ultimately helped limit Edwards’ scoring opportunities.

Williams provided a crucial boost for the Thunder, finishing with 34 points and five assists on 13-for-24 shooting. His ability to create mismatches against the Wolves’ defense was key in Oklahoma City’s win.

The Thunder’s bench contributed significantly, with Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe, and Kenrich Williams making multiple 3-point shots each. The team’s outside shooting has been a strength all season, and the contributions from its reserves were vital in securing the win.

In contrast, the Timberwolves struggled to match the Thunder’s defensive intensity, particularly in the first half. Minnesota turned over the ball 23 times overall, with many of those turnovers coming in the opening frame. The Thunder’s effective defense ultimately proved costly for the Wolves, giving Oklahoma City a commanding 3-1 series lead heading into Game 5 on Wednesday night.
