OKLAHOMA CITY — In a stunning turn of events, Oklahoma City’s Jalen Williams led the Thunder to a 120-109 victory over the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. The 24-year-old first-time All-Star scored a career-high 40 points on 14-of-25 shooting, including three 3-pointers.
Williams’ performance was nothing short of incredible, as he sparked an 18-6 run that put the game away for the Thunder. His clutch shooting and relentless drive to the rim made him nearly unstoppable at times.
“It’s something more than I’ll look back on later than worry about what it makes,” Williams said in a post-game interview. “I think the only statement we have right now is we’re up 3-2 and we have to still go earn another win.”
Williams’ impressive display earned him praise from his teammates, including superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. “He was really gutsy tonight,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “He stepped into big plays. Felt like every time we needed a shot, he made it.”
The Thunder’s victory puts the franchise one win away from its first championship since moving to Oklahoma City. Williams’ performance has been a major factor in the team’s success this postseason, and he continues to prove himself as a crucial contributor alongside Gilgeous-Alexander.
With the series now tied 3-2, the Thunder will look to close out the title in Game 6 on Thursday.
