Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy Watch Historic Indoor Golf League Debut

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy witnessed the opening match of the inaugural TGL season, a high-tech indoor golf league aiming to revolutionize the sport. The Bay Golf Club, comprising Ludvig Åberg, Shane Lowry, and Wyndham Clark, defeated the New York Golf Club, featuring Xander Schauffele, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Rickie Fowler, 9-2.

The competition began after a brief delay due to Lowry forgetting his tee for the first shot. However, he quickly regained momentum with a strong opening drive into the fairway. The Bay Golf Club dominated the match, building an early 6-0 lead before Lowry secured the win on the 10th hole, beating Fowler.

The event was characterized by its lighthearted atmosphere, with players chatting freely through microphones and sharing humorous moments on the course. Woods, who co-founded TMRW Sports, the concept behind TGL, expressed his excitement for the new format, stating it’s “not traditional golf” but still retains the essence of the sport.

Many players praised the debut event, including Lowry and Åberg, who described the stadium-like atmosphere as “awesome.” The next match takes place on January 14, featuring Woods’ team, Jupiter Links Golf Club, against Los Angeles Golf Club.
