US President Donald Trump hosted a meeting with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and player directors Tiger Woods and Adam Scott on Thursday, marking the second time this month that the group has met at the White House.
The gathering was initiated by Trump and aimed to revive talks over the PGA Tour’s reunification with LIV Golf, which is owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). The two sides had reached a framework agreement in June 2023 but have since been hindered by an ongoing Department of Justice investigation into possible antitrust violations.
“We share a passion for the game and the importance of reunification,” Monahan said in a statement. “We are committed to moving as quickly as possible and will share additional details as appropriate.”
Tiger Woods, who recently played golf with Trump at his South Florida course, expressed his support for the talks, stating that he wants to see top players competing more often.
The meeting marked an escalation in negotiations between the PGA Tour and PIF, with Yasir Al-Rumayyan’s participation suggesting a significant development. However, no further announcement was made about a potential deal.
The reunification of golf is seen as crucial for the sport’s future, following years of division caused by LIV Golf’s emergence. Trump has publicly stated his desire to revive the game and hosts LIV Golf events at his courses.
