Tiger Woods Mourns Loss of Mother Kultida at 80

Tiger Woods’ mother, Kultida, a pillar of support throughout his golf career, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80. Describing her as “my biggest fan” and “the enforcer,” Woods said in a statement that she was a force to be reckoned with, whose spirit was simply undeniable.

Kultida, born in Thailand, moved to the US in the 1960s and met Tiger’s father Earl, a soldier in the US Army Special Forces. She was married to him for 37 years until his death from cancer in 2006. Woods credits his mother with being a stabilizing force at home, supporting him through thick and thin.

The tradition of wearing red on Sundays originated with Kultida, who believed it was Tiger’s “power color.” This tradition, which began when Tiger was a junior golfer, has continued throughout his career, becoming synonymous with the athlete. Woods has often expressed gratitude to his mother for her unwavering support and love, saying she allowed him to chase his dreams and achieve greatness.

Tiger’s mother will be deeply missed by those who knew her, including her grandchildren Sam and Charlie, whom she adored. As Woods said in a statement, “Thank you all for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family.”
