Tim Allen and Kat Dennings Reunite in New ABC Sitcom ‘Shifting Gears’

Network sitcom royalty Tim Allen and Kat Dennings are teaming up for the new midseason debut “Shifting Gears,” an ABC primetime show that brings the two actors together as a father-daughter duo. The multi-camera half-hour follows Matt, a classic car restoration shop owner played by Allen, who is reunited with his estranged daughter Riley after more than a decade of separation.

The show, created by husband-and-wife team Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully (“The Simpsons”) and produced by Dennings, explores the family dynamics between Matt and Riley as they navigate their new living arrangement. With Dennings also producing, the show delves into themes of love, loss, and co-parenting.

Allen stars in the lead role alongside Dennings, who produces alongside Michelle Nader. The show has received praise for its lighthearted humor, with critics praising the chemistry between Allen and Dennings as a father-daughter duo. However, some critics have noted that the show could benefit from smoother integration of Matt’s personal and professional life.

“Shifting Gears” premieres on ABC on January 8 at 8 p.m. ET, with remaining episodes airing weekly on Wednesdays. The show promises to explore the ups and downs of family relationships and the challenges of rebuilding after a long separation. With its lighthearted tone and talented cast, “Shifting Gears” is sure to be a hit with audiences.
