Tim Cook on AI, Vision Pro, and Apple’s Future Plans

In a wide-ranging interview with WIRED, Apple CEO Tim Cook discussed various topics including artificial intelligence (AI), the performance of the Vision Pro, and the company’s future plans.

On AI, Cook stated that Apple is focusing on delivering useful technology to people and changing their lives, rather than pursuing more ambitious goals such as achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI). However, he acknowledged that this is a discussion they will continue to have.

Regarding Apple Intelligence, Cook said it is not something the company would charge for, viewing it as a fundamental feature like multitouch. He expressed concern over people spending excessive time on their smartphones and believes that tools such as Screen Time help address this issue.

Cook also discussed the performance of the Vision Pro, stating that while it may not have met sales expectations initially, the ecosystem surrounding it is flourishing. He believes the technology will progress to what he considers the most advanced in electronics problems.

In addition, Cook touched on Apple’s expansion into medical technology and AI-powered analysis of biometric data, but declined to announce specific details. He also hinted that live presentations may return someday, despite preferring pre-recorded announcements due to logistical constraints.

Throughout the interview, Cook emphasized his deep connection with the company and expressed his desire to stay involved until he feels it’s time to move on.
