The Minnesota Timberwolves suffered their first loss of the season without star guard Anthony Edwards, who missed Saturday’s game due to illness. The Wolves trailed by 11 points with just minutes left in the third quarter but managed to pull within a point twice before falling short to the league-worst Washington Wizards.
Without Edwards, forward Julius Randle was also out with a groin strain, leaving the Wolves shorthanded. Naz Reid suffered a right finger sprain and did not return to the game. The team’s starters were limited to Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.
Despite the injuries, the Wolves had some promising performances from Joe Ingles, who scored 10 points in 19 minutes off the bench, and Mike Conley, who played the entire fourth quarter. However, the team struggled with consistency and gave up second-chance opportunities to the Wizards.
The loss marked the end of a five-game winning streak for the Wolves and extended the Wizards’ losing skid to 16 games. The team will need to regroup and find ways to overcome injuries to compete against top teams in the league.
