The White Lotus season-three episode seven, “Killer Instincts,” takes viewers on a rollercoaster ride as the slow unraveling of character Timothy Ratliff reaches its boiling point. High on prescription drugs and hiding his family’s dark secret, Tim (played by Jason Isaacs) is under immense pressure from conversations with Victoria and Saxon.
As the episode unfolds, Tim’s desperation grows, putting him at risk of a catastrophic explosion in the next finale. “I don’t want to spoil what’s coming,” says Isaacs, but hints that it will lead to something significant.
Isaacs’ portrayal of Tim requires him to navigate an array of emotions, from catastrophe and hopelessness to panic. He admits that inhabiting this character was a challenge, even for someone who trusts his audience. “I had all those thoughts exploding in my head,” he reveals.
However, the actor’s true struggle lies in articulating what it means to become someone else. Despite his love for the show’s creator and writer Mike White, Isaacs admits he’s lost for words when discussing how to portray characters like Tim.
