Toby Roberts, the Paris 2024 combined Olympic champion, dominated the men’s boulder event at the IFSC Sport Climbing World Cup in Innsbruck on Thursday (26 June). He secured the title with a final score of 69.8, narrowly edging out Japan’s Anraku Sorato, who posted 69.6.
Roberts’ victory marked a significant comeback for the Team GB athlete, who has faced a tough season so far. His statement after the competition read: “I absolutely don’t have words. I don’t really know what just happened. This season has been quite hard, but I gave it everything.”
The event saw Anraku Sorato claim the overall World Cup title, despite facing setbacks, including an appeal against his starting position and a technical issue with the final problem. Roberts’ late surge in the second half of the competition put pressure on Anraku, ultimately forcing him to settle for silver.
This win adds another title to Roberts’ collection, as he continues to build momentum ahead of the IFSC World Championships in Seoul from 21–28 September.
