Sheinelle Jones is speaking out after the tragic loss of her husband, Uche Ojeh. The 47-year-old journalist announced his passing on the May 23 broadcast of The Today show, revealing that he had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Jones shared a heartfelt message on social media, expressing gratitude for the love and support she received from fans and viewers during her recent extended break. She did not reveal the nature of her family’s health matter but thanked her Today show family and co-hosts for their kindness and love during a sensitive time.
The news comes after Jones revealed in January that she was taking an extended break to deal with a family health issue. Her co-hosts, including Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Jenna Bush Hager, paid tribute to Ojeh on the show, describing him as “an incredible person” who loved his children more than anything.
Jones and Ojeh first met at Northwestern University, where she was a freshman and he was a high school senior visiting the campus. The couple dated for eight years before proposing in a rainstorm on their alma mater’s campus. They tied the knot in 2007 and are now parents to three children: Kayin, Clara, and Uche.
The pair often celebrated their love story on social media, with Jones sharing photos of their anniversary in September 2023. Her co-hosts honored their love story, saying that Ojeh was Jones’ “perfect match,” bringing joy and warmth to every room he entered.
