Sheinelle Jones’ Today show co-hosts announced that her husband, Uche Ojeh, had passed away at the age of 45 due to brain cancer. The news was shared during a segment on May 23, with Craig Melvin paying tribute to his friend and colleague.
Melvin remembered their final golf outing together in the fall, where they discussed life’s big questions and Ojeh’s love for their children. He praised Jones’ strength and resilience as she coped with the loss of her husband while raising three young kids on her own.
Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, Carson Daly, Dylan Dreyer, and Jenna Bush Hager also commended Jones for putting on a brave face despite her grief. The co-hosts shared stories about Ojeh’s love for his family and his strong faith, which inspired those who knew him.
The couple met at Northwestern University in the late 1990s and fell in love after a proposal on campus during a rainstorm. They got married in Philadelphia in 2007 and had two sons before welcoming twins in 2012.
Jones has been absent from the Today show since mid-December, but shared a video of the tribute segment on Instagram with a message of gratitude to her fans.
