Today’s NYT Connections Hints and Answers for Monday, January 20

The New York Times daily word game, Connections, is now available. To play, choose four words from the grid of 16 words to form groups based on connections between them. Each group has a unique solution, with varying levels of difficulty.

Connections is a free game that can be played on the NYT website or Games app. The goal is to arrange the words into four categories, each color-coded for ease of identification. Yellow groups are usually easy, while purple groups often involve wordplay and require more thought.

The game has no time limit, but beware: four mistakes will end the game. To help with difficult puzzles, hints and answers have been provided. Today’s 16 words include COOKIE, BEAR, SPINACH, and SHOULDER among others.

To access today’s Connections groups and their connections, go to the NYT website or Games app. You can also find previous games in the Connections archive for subscribers. The author of this column provides hints and answers on a regular basis.

This week, one of the author’s personal connections was the band OK Go, which released its first album in over a decade last week. To catch up with more coverage of word games, follow Kris Holt’s blog or join him on Bluesky.
