Tom Conrad Named Interim CEO of Sonos After Patrick Spence’s Ouster

Tom Conrad, a long-time veteran of the tech industry, has been appointed interim CEO of Sonos after Patrick Spence’s ouster. In his first letter to employees, Conrad expressed his commitment to getting back on track and improving the company’s core experience for customers while driving innovation and financial performance.

Conrad, who has relocated to Santa Barbara and will be in the office daily, acknowledged that the company has let its customers down this year due to issues with products such as alarms not going off or kids being unable to hear their playlists. He emphasized the importance of getting back to basics but stressed that it’s not enough to unlock the future Sonos envisions.

Conrad is energized by the passion he sees in employees for doing right by customers and getting back to innovation. He plans to work with employees to build towards a new chapter for Sonos, including meeting with offices outside of California in the coming weeks.

Sonos board chair Julius Genachowski has stated that Conrad’s mandate is to improve the core experience for customers while optimizing business performance. Conrad has left his job as CEO of Zero Longevity Science to focus on Sonos full-time, fueling speculation that he may be a candidate for permanent CEO position.
