Warner Bros. announced that Tom Cruise and Alejandro González Iñárritu’s untitled feature will arrive on October 2, 2026. The movie, produced by Legendary, marks Iñárritu’s first English-language film since “The Revenant” in 2015. In the film, Cruise plays a powerful man who must prove he is humanity’s savior before a disaster he unleashes destroys everything.
The release date shift coincides with Matt Reeves’ “The Batman sequel,” previously titled as part of the DC Studios slate, which has been delayed to October 1, 2027. The delay was due to scripting and production delays. Iñárritu’s film is expected to go into production in the third quarter of 2025.
Cruise and Iñárritu’s movie also stars Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed. The film will be released after “Mickey 17,” which has been rescheduled to March 7, 2025, following delays in its production due to post-production work issues.
The announcement comes as DC Studios’ co-chief James Gunn expressed his commitment to making the best film possible, stating that scripting can take time and pre-production, shooting, and post-production phases can last up to two years.
