Hollywood star Tom Cruise, 62, has received the US Navy’s highest civilian honor, the Distinguished Public Service Award. The award recognizes his decades-long advocacy for the Navy through films like “Top Gun” and its sequel “Maverick.” The film’s success reportedly led to a surge in pilot recruitment in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Cruise was also named an honorary naval aviator by the Navy in 2020, allowing him to wear the wings of gold of a U.S. naval aviator.
