Tom Cruise is reportedly considering a potential bow at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival for “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning”, which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 21. This would be Cruise’s last outing as Ethan Hunt, and comes after his successful appearance at the festival in 2022 with “Top Gun: Maverick”.
Paramount Pictures has a history of success at Cannes, with “Mission: Impossible” being no exception. The studio is expected to bring a strong lineup of films to the event, including Spike Lee’s highly anticipated “Highest 2 Lowest”, Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme”, and Richard Linklater’s “Nouvelle Vague”.
However, not all American filmmakers are set to attend the festival. Apple’s Brad Pitt-directed “F1” is unlikely to world premiere at Cannes, according to sources.
The festival has been thriving with back-to-back milestone editions, showcasing some of the best films from around the world. While commercial movies don’t always benefit from a Cannes launch, those like “Top Gun: Maverick” have seen a boost in success after their festival debut.
