Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk has released updated versions of his iconic video game series, “Tony Hawk Pro Skater.” The latest games, which remade and bundled classic titles from 2001 and 2002, aim to celebrate the sport’s evolution over the past two decades.
Hawk’s involvement in the gaming industry dates back to 1999 when he launched his namesake game. At that time, he was determined to perform a 900-degree trick during a competition, which eventually became an iconic moment in skateboarding history.
The “Pro Skater” series has been instrumental in popularizing skateboarding among gamers and enthusiasts alike. Hawk attributes the series’ success to its ability to inspire people to try the sport. He notes that many professional skaters, including current pros, began skating due to their exposure to the game.
Hawk’s personal passion project is his skatepark-building initiative, which has given away over $9 million and helped develop over 500 skateparks across the United States. He hopes to see skateboarding included as an Olympic sport, with a focus on vertical halfpipe skating in Los Angeles during the 2028 Games.
