Toronto Maple Leafs Re-Sign John Tavares to 4-Year Contract Extension

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced a four-year contract extension with forward John Tavares, worth an average annual value of $4.38 million. The deal will keep the 34-year-old native of Mississauga, Ontario, in blue and white until at least the 2027-28 season.

Tavares previously played for the Maple Leafs last season, scoring 74 points (38 goals, 36 assists) in 75 games. With over 1,184 NHL regular-season appearances under his belt, he is one of the most experienced players in the league. Tavares also boasts a rich playoff record, with 53 career points (28 goals, 25 assists) and numerous international accolades.

Originally drafted by the New York Islanders as the first overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, Tavares has built on his success, earning multiple Olympic gold medals, including at the 2014 Winter Games. This re-signing solidifies the Maple Leafs’ commitment to building a strong core around their star forward.
