Trail Blazers Re-Sign Coach Chauncey Billups to Multi-Year Deal

The Portland Trail Blazers have signed coach Chauncey Billups to a multiyear contract extension, according to general manager Joe Cronin’s announcement on Sunday. The new deal was negotiated with Billups’ agent, Andy Miller of Klutch Sports.

Billups expressed his happiness about the extension, stating that he believes in the team’s potential and is excited for the future. In his fourth season, Billups has led the Trail Blazers to a 22-18 record since January 19, ranking among the top five in defense and third in transition defense.

The team’s defensive improvement during this period has been notable, with Cronin praising the progress made under Billups’ leadership. The coach has also played a key role in developing several young players, including Deni Avdija and Shaedon Sharpe.

Billups, who is now 116-211 in his four seasons as Trail Blazers coach, has led the team to its most wins this season since 2020-21. With Cronin’s extension also announced on Monday, the duo will continue to work together to build a cohesive leadership structure for the team.

Billups, a Hall of Famer and former NBA champion with the Detroit Pistons, brings valuable experience to his role as coach of the Trail Blazers. His re-signing is seen as a positive move for the team’s future prospects.
