A tragic tram accident occurred on Saturday in Strasbourg, France, when two trams collided in a tunnel at the city’s central station. The incident has left 50 people with injuries, although none are reported to be critical. An additional 100 passengers were assessed for shock or stress.
According to reports, one of the trams switched tracks and collided with a stationary tram, causing significant damage to both vehicles. Mayor Jeanne Barseghian described the incident as a “brutal collision” and expressed gratitude to emergency responders who mobilized at the scene.
The city’s public transportation system has a history of safety records, with Strasbourg being the first major city in France to reintroduce trams in 1994. This accident marks a rare exception to that record, highlighting the importance of continued vigilance and safety measures for public transportation systems.
