Travis Hunter Wins Heisman Trophy in Historic Season

Colorado’s star defensive back and wide receiver, Travis Hunter, won the 2024 Heisman Trophy in a closely contested race, edging out Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty by a narrow margin of 2,231 to 2,017 points. The junior’s historic season saw him excel on both offense and defense, with 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns on offense, while also having four interceptions, 11 passes defensed, and over 30 tackles on defense.

Hunter’s stats could have been better, as he missed significant parts of two games due to a shoulder injury. Despite this, his impressive performances made him the first player since Alabama WR DeVonta Smith in 2020 to win the Heisman without playing quarterback and just the fifth non-quarterback since the turn of the century.

Hunter’s unique recruitment story drew attention, having been listed as an athlete due to his ability to play both receiver and cornerback at a high level. He signed with Jackson State before following Coach Deion Sanders to Colorado, where he made significant strides on both sides of the ball. Hunter has stated that he’s heading to the NFL after the season and is likely a top-five draft pick.

Colorado will face BYU in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28, where both Hunter and Shedeur Sanders will participate.
