Tight end Travis Kelce is still deciding whether to return to the NFL for another season after the Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl LIX. The team has reportedly given him a deadline to make up his mind, with March 14 as the target date.
Kelce’s contract with the Chiefs runs through the 2025 season and includes an $11.5 million roster bonus due on March 15. With the NFL’s free agency period starting on March 10, the team wants to know if he’ll continue his career or retire.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes said Kelce deserves a break after a long season and is not pressuring him into making a decision. “He’s given so much to this team and to the NFL,” Mahomes stated. “And he’s been such a joy, not only for me to work with, but for people to watch.”
Kelce previously discussed his future on the podcast New Heights, where he mentioned that he’s taking time to figure things out and wants to make sure any potential return is a wholehearted decision. The tight end acknowledged that the Chiefs made mistakes during the Super Bowl, which was their second consecutive loss in the championship game.
Despite the setback, Kelce has had an impressive career, becoming the third all-time tight end in receptions with 1,004 and receiving yards with 12,151. He is also fifth on the list of all-time receiving touchdowns with 77.
