US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed confidence in the US markets, saying he is not worried about long-term problems despite recent stock market fluctuations. In an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Bessent described market corrections as “healthy” and “normal.” He attributed the current market situation to a need for tax policy reforms and deregulation.
Bessent noted that previous government interventions, such as putting brakes on the markets in 2006-2007, could have prevented the 2008 financial crisis. However, he does not foresee a major crisis, instead predicting a “transition” period.
The US stock market rebounded last week after President Trump’s tariff threats sparked concerns of recession. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite indices rose on Friday, with solid gains reported in the three markets.
