Trevians Hoopsters Struggle Against Size, Champions Win 60-47

The New Trier boys basketball team faced off against the powerful Champions in a special Hoops 4 Hunger matchup at Northwestern University’s Welsh-Ryan Arena on Saturday. The event, which raised money for The Greater Chicago Food Depository, saw six competitive teams compete for charity.

New Trier coach Scott Fricke praised the experience, saying his players were excited to play on the university’s court. However, the Champions’ size and strength proved too much, with Lane Tech’s Dalton Scantlebury scoring a team-high 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

The Trevians struggled to contain the Champions’ big men, who dominated in the paint. Junior guard Christopher Kirkpatrick led all scorers with 9 first-half points but was unable to overcome the deficit. Despite a strong second half from junior Danny Houlihan, the Trevians couldn’t close the gap.

Lane Tech’s twin towers, Scantlebury and Zach Mazanowski, each finished with double-doubles, helping their team secure a 60-47 victory. New Trier shot just 32% from the floor and was out-rebounded by 35-27.

The loss marks a rare one for the Trevians, who will look to bounce back on Monday against Kenwood in another shootout matchup.
