Trudeau to Meet King Charles on Sovereignty with Donald Trump’s Annexation Threats

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to meet King Charles in London to discuss “matters of importance to Canada and Canadians.” The discussion will focus on Canada’s sovereignty, amid growing concerns over the US president’s repeated threats to annex the country. In a thinly veiled remark, Trudeau stated that standing up for Canadian independence is a pressing issue for his nation.

Canada’s head of state, King Charles, has remained silent on Trump’s remarks, despite being a key figure in the UK government. The monarch serves as a figurehead under Canada’s constitutional monarchy system, where the elected government acts in their name.

Trudeau also expressed confidence that Canadian allies will continue to support its sovereignty. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer dodged questions about King Charles’ concerns over Trump’s statements on annexing Canada during his recent visit to the White House. However, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly remains in close contact with her British counterparts and warned European leaders about potential threats from Trump.
