The Trump administration is slashing federal spending on consultants, with at least 127 contracts cut or modified since January, according to data from the White House Office of Digital Engagement (DOGE). Deloitte, one of the largest firms, has seen its government contracts reduced by about double the number of those cut for the second-hardest-hit consultancy.
According to DOGE’s analysis, these cuts are expected to save taxpayers around $371.8 million, including $51.4 million from a contract with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and $1.1 million from a diversity and inclusion training contract. The total value of Deloitte’s federal contracts was $3.3 billion per year.
Booz Allen Hamilton is the second most affected firm, with 61 contracts cut, worth $207.1 million, while Accenture has seen at least 30 contracts reduced, saving $240.2 million.
The General Services Administration (GSA) is leading the effort to reevaluate federal consulting spend, aiming to reduce waste and move towards outcome-based contracts. The GSA asked the firms to submit a scorecard detailing their pricing and suggestions for cost reduction.
A total of 10 major firms are under scrutiny, with the goal of cutting hundreds of millions of dollars in unnecessary spending.
