Trump Administration Eases Drone Regulations for Business Use

The US Transportation Department has proposed new rules to make it easier for businesses to use drones for commercial purposes, such as delivering coffee and inspecting power lines. The proposal aims to simplify the process of getting approval to operate drones in US airspace and reduce unnecessary regulations.

Currently, companies must apply for a waiver or exemption to use drones beyond their line of sight. This has hindered innovation, according to industry leaders. A new rule would require drones to be built to industry standards, have collision avoidance technology, and follow specific guidelines when flying over large outdoor gatherings.

The proposed rules also include security checks for drone operators and limits on where commercial drones can fly. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) welcomed the proposal, citing the need for clearer regulations to ensure safety in crowded skies. The new rule will be open for public comment for 60 days before being finalized.
