Trump Administration Loses Multiple Court Battles Over Immigration, Elections, and DEI Policies

President Donald Trump’s administration faced a series of court losses over its policies on immigration, elections, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in schools. The decisions came as the administration pushed back against unfavorable rulings.

In education, federal judges blocked directives from the Education Department that aimed to crack down on DEI practices deemed discriminatory. In Maryland and Washington, D.C., courts halted portions of the department’s anti-DEI efforts.

On elections, a federal judge in Washington sided with voting rights groups, blocking changes to voter registration forms and tightening mail ballot deadlines. The Constitution gives power over federal elections to states and Congress, not the president, she ruled.

In immigration, the Trump administration is appealing a ruling barring it from deporting people from Colorado under a rarely used law. In another case, a court ordered the government to facilitate the return of a man who was deported despite having a pending asylum application.

The American Civil Liberties Union claims that migrants subject to removal under the Alien Enemies Act are being given an insufficient time to contest their deportation. Another federal judge barred the administration from denying federal funds to “sanctuary” cities that limit immigration cooperation.

Additionally, the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to allow enforcement of a ban on transgender people in the military. However, a federal appeals court kept in place a court order blocking the policy nationwide.

These rulings come as more than 170 lawsuits were filed over President Donald Trump’s executive orders.
