Trump Administration Wins Supreme Court Ruling to Cut Education Jobs

The US Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the Trump administration, allowing it to lay off over 1,300 federal education workers who handle grants, civil rights complaints, and certify schools for financial aid. This decision comes as part of a broader effort by the administration to scale back federal involvement in education.

The layoffs could worsen budgetary uncertainties, particularly for Minnesota districts that have already seen funding cuts. Minneapolis Public Schools, Bemidji Area Schools, and St. Cloud Area School District are among those affected, with projects totaling $2.2 million, $899,914, and $252,446 respectively.

However, it’s worth noting that some federal education grants will still be awarded, albeit in a reduced capacity. The Office of English Language Acquisition, which focused on programming for English-language learners, has been completely eliminated. This could pose an additional threat to EL programs, which also lost funding earlier this month.
