Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has agreed to a partial ceasefire with Russia, focusing on energy and civilian infrastructure. The 30-day truce was facilitated by a phone call between Zelensky and former US President Donald Trump.
The agreement marks a significant development in the conflict, which began over three years ago. Trump described their conversation as “very good” and said that “America is very much on track” to achieve lasting peace.
However, the ceasefire’s effectiveness remains uncertain, given Russia’s previous breaches of commitment. Ukrainian authorities reported extensive Russian attacks overnight, including strikes on energy infrastructure. The White House confirmed that a full ceasefire had not been reached, but emphasized continued military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine.
Zelensky expressed skepticism about Putin’s willingness to uphold his side of the bargain, citing recent instances where Russia has failed to honor its commitments. Despite these concerns, Trump remained optimistic, saying he believed the war could be ended quickly if a ceasefire is in place.
