Republican Senator Thom Tillis is using his leverage as a committee member to push for Wicker’s help to pass a bill recognizing the tribe through legislation. The Lumbee Tribe has more than 55,000 members and claims to be an amalgamation of various Siouan, Algonquian, and Iroquoian-speaking tribes.
