US President Donald Trump has expressed strong support for Ukraine’s bid to regain all the land it has lost since Russia’s 2022 invasion, calling it a “strong statement of support” for Kyiv. In a recent post on Truth Social, he claimed that Russia is facing economic trouble and that Ukraine can take back its territory with the help of European countries like NATO. Trump also promised to supply weapons to Nato, which will allow member states to decide how to use them.
Trump’s comments came after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York. He praised Zelenskyy as a “brave man” and said that Russia is “fighting aimlessly” for three-and-a-half years, which should have been over by now with a more powerful military.
Trump also urged Nato countries to stop importing Russian oil, including Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, who is a close ally of Trump. The US president believes that this would help Ukraine win the war and put pressure on Russia.
The European Union (EU) has proposed ending its import of liquid natural gas from Russia by 2026, one year earlier than planned. However, some countries like Hungary and Slovakia still rely heavily on Russian energy supplies, which makes it challenging to make a switch.
