Trump Blames Globalists for Market Sell-Off

US President Donald Trump has said his administration is not considering the stock market reaction when creating its tariff policy, contradicting expectations that he would be sensitive to market fluctuations. When asked about a recent sell-off in the markets, Trump stated that the decision to pause tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods for one month was unrelated to the market.

Trump instead described the move as an effort to hold companies accountable for “ripping off” the US, saying it’s aimed at protecting American interests. He also blamed “globalists” for opposing his policies, suggesting they are envious of the country’s success.

The comments come as the stock market has struggled recently, with major indexes heading towards a losing week. Some on Wall Street had hoped Trump would consider the market as an approval rating, but Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the president’s focus is broader than daily market movements.
