Trump responded by saying Musk would be looking into Fort Knox to ensure that the gold is present. When another reporter questioned where the gold could have gone, Trump stated that if it wasn’t there, the US would be “very upset.”
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent addressed the concern earlier in the day, stating that an annual audit confirms all the gold is present and accounted for. The government also offered to arrange an inspection for any senator interested in verifying the issue.
