US President Donald Trump has expressed skepticism about Russia’s intention to end its war with Ukraine, which has lasted over three years. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions suggest he may not be willing to stop the conflict.
Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Vatican on Saturday for Pope Francis’ funeral and expressed frustration with Putin’s recent missile attacks on Kyiv. The attacks killed 12 people and injured over 90, including children.
Trump believes that Putin is not acting in good faith and may be using the US as a means to pressure Ukraine into negotiations. He hinted at potential economic sanctions against Russia if the war does not cease.
The post comes after ongoing negotiations between Russia and Ukraine have failed to yield a peace deal. Trump had previously claimed that he would end the war within 24 hours of taking office, but has yet to follow through on this promise.
Trump also took aim at former presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama in his post, blaming them for the ongoing conflict under their watch.
