US President Donald Trump has extended America’s tariff truce with China for at least another 90 days. This decision follows a period of intense trade dealmaking and tariffs being imposed on dozens of countries, including Canada, Congo, the European Union, Japan, Britain, South Korea, and Vietnam.
The US has also announced punitive duties on Brazil, Canada, and India, while setting harsh terms for Switzerland. In contrast, Trump recently stated that gold will not face tariffs. Japanese exporters have been assured that they will be compensated for new American duties that were incorrectly applied to earlier levies.
The extension of the China tariff truce marks a significant development in global trade negotiations, which have left many countries reeling from the unpredictable nature of the US trade policies under Trump’s leadership.
