Trump Holds Rally on National Mall for America’s 250th Anniversary

President Donald Trump formally kicked off America’s 250th anniversary celebrations by hosting a campaign-style rally on the National Mall. The event featured a series of booming flyovers, music from military bands, and Lee Greenwood singing “God Bless the USA.” Trump touted his accomplishments, including restoring the country to greatness and reducing laughter at America’s expense.

The president was less critical of Democrats than usual, stating that the American Dream is alive again. He also mentioned efforts to revamp the Reflecting Pool near the Lincoln Memorial and build a ballroom at the White House. Despite the rally being one of his shortest speeches ever, Trump still managed to note an upcoming July Fourth event.

The crowd was contained to a segment of the National Mall that was nearly full, with attendees wearing “Make America Great Again” hats. Some, like Karen Ontrap and her family, traveled from northwest Ohio to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary. Others, including Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, praised Trump as the “greatest president ever.”

The rally comes ahead of critical November elections, where Trump is working to convince Americans that he has put the unpopular Iran war in the rearview mirror. However, his low approval ratings remain a challenge, with many citing inflation and economic concerns.

Despite these issues, Trump’s appearance at the rally was well-received by some attendees, who saw it as an opportunity to see the president up close. As one attendee noted, “It’s a once in a lifetime chance” to see Trump before their planned visit to the State Fair with their children.
