Trump Imposes Sanctions on ICC Officials Over War Crimes Allegations

The US government has imposed sanctions on four International Criminal Court (ICC) officials for their alleged involvement in investigating war crimes committed by the US and its allies. The move comes days after President Donald Trump signed an executive order authorizing punitive measures against ICC personnel.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the designations, which include judges Kimberly Prost of Canada, Nicolas Guillou of France, Nazhat Shameem Khan of Fiji, and Mame Mandiaye Niang of Senegal. The officials are accused of supporting investigations into US nationals in Afghanistan and issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The ICC has condemned the move as a “flagrant attack” on its independence. The court says it will continue to fulfill its mandates despite the sanctions, which include possible visa restrictions and entry bans for the affected officials.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the sanctions, calling them a step towards “truth and justice”. However, France has urged the US to drop the sanctions, expressing solidarity with the targeted judges and reaffirming its support for the ICC.
