President Donald Trump met with over 15 oil and gas executives at the White House, where they discussed regulations and energy policies under his administration’s “energy dominance” agenda. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Energy Secretary Chris Wright also attended the meeting.
The American Petroleum Institute (API) lobby group attended the meeting to push for increased leases for drilling on federal lands and waters, easier pipeline permitting, and expedited approvals for new liquefied natural gas exports.
Chevron CEO Mike Wirth, ConocoPhillips CEO Ryan Lance, Marathon Petroleum CEO Maryann Mannen, and Phillips 66 CEO Mark Lashier were among those present. Exxon and Chevron declined to comment on the meeting.
Trump has prioritized boosting fossil fuel production under his agenda, reversing commitments made by the Biden administration to fight climate change. The API’s roadmap calls for these exact policies to be implemented.
Despite recent price fluctuations in US crude oil due to OPEC+ production increases and recession fears, the discussion at the White House meeting focused little on oil prices.
