Trump Nominates Gail Slater as Head of DOJ Antitrust Division

President-elect Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he will nominate Gail Slater as head of the Justice Department’s antitrust division. Slater, who recently served as economic policy adviser to Vice President-elect Pence, has a strong background in technology policy and antitrust law.

Slater will take over cases including one aimed at breaking up Google, which has been accused of abusing its search monopoly. The proposal for a partial breakup of the company and an overhaul of its Android mobile operating system is seen as a major antitrust action if approved.

Trump stated that Slater’s appointment was made to continue his efforts to combat Big Tech power, citing “years of stifling competition in our most innovative sector.” Slater’s experience at the Federal Trade Commission, where she spent over a decade enforcing antitrust law, makes her a suitable candidate for this position.
