Trump Open to Using Military Force for Greenland Seizure

US President Donald Trump has hinted at using “military force” to seize Greenland from Denmark. In a phone call with NBC News’ Kristen Welker, Trump said he would “get Greenland” and didn’t rule out military action. However, Welker also noted that there’s a possibility of doing it without force.

Trump had previously stated that the US needs Greenland for national security and international security, citing its strategic location and natural resources. The Danish government has rejected this, saying they won’t sell Greenland to anyone. Despite Trump’s comments, residents of Greenland overwhelmingly oppose US takeover.

Last week, J.D. Vance, a White House advisor, visited Greenland but his trip was cut short after officials expressed concerns about the timing. In a speech, Vance claimed that Greenlanders will choose independence through self-determination, but this is disputed by many. The Danish government has urged Trump to respect its sovereignty and approach discussions with an open mind.

A video response from Denmark’s foreign minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, criticized Trump’s tone, saying it was unacceptable to speak to close allies in such a manner. Despite the tension, both countries remain open to discussing US military presence in Greenland.
